ISS-Oeiras - International Sharing School

Student voice

We believe every student has a voice worth hearing, and students play an integral role in shaping both their educational experience and the school community.

Our “Student Voice” initiative is built on three key programmes: Student Leadership, Student Council, and the Student Action Group.

Student leadership

Student leaders are empowered to represent and inspire their peers. At its core is the Head Prefect, who represents the entire student body, as well as other prefects attached to school houses. Student leaders are responsible for organising events, serving as ambassadors and advocating for student needs. This experience fosters confidence, teamwork, decision-making and an entrepreneurial approach to solving problems.

Student Council

The Student Council connects students with school leadership, ensuring their voices are heard. Guided by the Principal, the council includes two representatives per year group, across both primary and secondary school. Together, council members discuss policies and collaborate on initiatives. Through the council, students learn to advocate for their classmates’ needs and have a voice in the school’s decision-making.

Student Action Group

The Student Action Group empowers primary school students to address real-world challenges. Guided by teachers, students identify issues, develop solutions and implement their ideas. This initiative encourages teamwork, creativity and leadership from an early age, with projects ranging from environmental initiatives to improving shared spaces.

Student-led clubs

Several children relax on colorful, modern seating in a bright, airy room with large windows overlooking an outdoor area.

Clubs give our students a way to build their social groups and leadership skills outside the classroom. Because they know what interests them more than we do, we support students to create innovative student-led clubs based on their personal interests and passions.
