ISS-Oeiras - International Sharing School
Four students in blue shirts work on laptops at a bright blue desk, with a bulletin board and a shelf visible in the background.

Our curriculum

We teach the International Baccalaureate (IB) programmes from the Foundation stage to the IB Diploma. The IB framework focuses on preparing young people to become global citizens by fostering an environment of curiosity, collaboration and creative problem solving. Within our multilingual and multicultural setting, we bring the IB to life through supportive and stimulating learning experiences that help children grow academically, emotionally and physically.

What is the International Baccalaureate?

Rather than seeing education as filling up a glass, the IB Framework approaches it as kindling a flame. As teachers, we nurture students’ natural thirst for knowledge through dynamic cycles of inquiry, action and reflection. And we support students on their journey as they develop the approaches to learning they need for both academic and personal success.

An IB education culminates in the IB Diploma, a highly respected qualification that is sought after by top universities around the world. This makes the IB an ideal choice for families who may move internationally or aim for global university admission.

Why choose the IB programme?

The IB Framework is renowned for its rigorous and holistic approach to education, providing students with a unique and enriching learning experience. When the students finish their education:

They think for themselves

Our students are encouraged to think critically and solve complex problems, and they are taught to steer and foster their own learning.

Two young girls in blue and white athletic shirts study together at a table in the foreground, while a person in a red hoodie is blurred in the background.

They are culturally aware

Our students become culturally aware through the development of a second language through the IB Framework, and can engage with people in a globalised world.

Three young women are gathered around a table, engaged in an art project, with a large cardboard easel visible in the blurred background.

They often perform better

Through the IB programmes, students develop strong social, academic and emotional characteristics, and are also more likely to perform well in comparison to students with other curricula.

A young man in a grey hoodie plays an acoustic guitar in the foreground, with another person's guitar neck visible in front of him, against a textured grey background.

They are ready for university

The rigorous academic standards of the IB Diploma and the emphasis on independent research, time management, and self-discipline provide a strong foundation for success in university and beyond.

A woman in a white turtleneck and dark blazer gestures with her hands in the foreground, while a blurred green wall and white background are visible behind her.

They are engaged with the community

The IB Framework not only helps students develop a sense of social responsibility but also enhances students’ leadership and collaboration skills.

Two children are engaged in a craft project with pinecones and colorful materials in the foreground, while a cartoon image of Snoopy on a screen is visible in the background.

The IB learner profile

The IB learner profile represents 10 attributes valued by IB schools. By promoting the development of these attributes, we help our students become responsible members of our community.

Approaches to Learning (ATL) are a set of skills that help students learn how to learn. Rather than focusing solely on content knowledge, ATL skills develop the abilities students need to manage their learning effectively, think critically, and interact successfully with others.

Students engage in learning activities in the background, while the foreground displays the IB Learner Profile attributes numbered 1 through 10.
